As part of their current studies in SISSPAR004 – Participate in Conditioning for Sport, Year 11 Sport Academy students from Preston Campus recently visited the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) for an inspiring and educational learning experience.
Students were given a guided tour of the VIS’s world-class training facilities, gaining first-hand insight into the environments that support Victoria’s elite athletes. A highlight of the visit was the opportunity to hear from Olympians Stacey Hymer and Tinka Easton, who shared their personal journeys, training routines, and the dedication required to compete at the highest level of sport.
The athletes spoke openly about balancing training, competition, recovery, and personal commitments, providing students with a valuable understanding of the discipline, resilience, and mindset needed to achieve success in high-performance sport.
The excursion enabled students to connect classroom learning with real-world sporting pathways while experiencing the innovative facilities and support systems available to elite athletes in Victoria. It was an engaging and motivating day that reinforced the importance of goal setting, commitment, and continuous improvement—qualities that our Sport Academy students strive to develop both on and off the field.
As part of their Personal Development program, the Year 11 cohort will have the opportunity to visit RIMERN (Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network) this week, with Year 11 C, D and F attending on Wednesday, followed by Year 11 A and B on Thursday.
RIMERN is a collaborative Rotary initiative supporting people experiencing significant life challenges, including homelessness, domestic violence, incarceration, refugee displacement, and other crises. The organisation works with welfare agencies to provide essential furniture, appliances and homewares to individuals and families as they establish or rebuild their homes.
In preparation for the excursion, students have been encouraged to consider how they might contribute to RIMERN's important work. A list of suitable items has been provided to students, giving families the opportunity to donate practical household goods if they are able to do so.
The visit will provide students with a valuable opportunity to develop their understanding of community service, social responsibility, and the ways in which individuals can make a meaningful difference to the lives of others.
Students are reminded to wear their full, correct Sport Academy uniform for the excursion.
