No doubt one of the biggest highlights in our Music calendar for the year is Parade Presents. This concert allows us to showcase the entire Music department with songs our ensembles have been working hard on all year.
This year, our theme was Parade Presents: The Seasons – songs inspired seasons in the weather, seasons of our lives, or perhaps just a clever play on words, lyrics, titles and artists.
The department was thrilled to play to a full house of keen parents and our wonderful Parade community. Some highlights include our Pop Ensemble with some outstanding four-part vocal harmonies, our junior concert band with a strong showing of new Year 7 musicians, and who will forget Marcus Rao in a wig singing his heart out to Rihanna's Umbrella with a fantastic student-led band of Year 12s!
Planning is already underway for next year’s concert, and we can’t wait to share that with you all in 2027.
Just recently, the College Concert Band travelled to the Hawthorn Arts Centre to participate in the Victorian Schools Music Festival. This yearly event brings together school concert bands from across the state. This festival celebrates music from a range of different genres and styles and seeks to highlight Australian composers. Rather than being a competition, bands are given awards based on their performance against the written music. Our Parade College Concert Band, led by Mr Watson and Mr Brazil, received a Bronze Award for their division. Well done to the Concert Band!
On Friday 21 August, the Associated Catholic Colleges' Music Network hosted a concert band reading and vocal rehearsal day. Bringing together Catholic schools from across Melbourne and regional Victoria, these days give students the opportunity to further their skills with expert tutors and conductors, and to network and make new musical friends. A select group of our Concert Band students were privileged to work with the Royal Australian Air Force Band at Emmanuel College in Point Cook. Some of our vocal students also had the chance to work with local vocal educators and performers Fem Belling and Emma Duncan. A great day was had by all, and we thank Carmelo Puglisi (Director of Music - Emmanuel College) and Paul Fahey (Executive Officer - ACC) for organising this event.
