Eddy's Brekky Van

It has been pleasing to see students from the lower year levels stepping up to participate and demonstrating the commitment they have to community engagement and social justice. Year 7 students Oliver Vidic T11 and Oliver Watts T19 have been popular volunteers with our patrons, adding enthusiasm and energy to the Tuesday morning breakfast routine.

Our regular senior school students have consistently fostered the supportive atmosphere of community action through their leadership. Specifically, Year 12 students Orlando Pettinella T07 and Nicholas Fernandes, N01, and Year 11 student Harry Pitts L08, have played a pivotal role in leading the new student volunteers.

Any students wanting to participate are asked to come and speak to me in the Community Action Centre.

Bluestone Cafe Barista Training

Whether you prefer it extra hot or with a double shot, the College was buzzing today as myself and four other Bluestone Café student volunteers participated in an intensive, full-day Barista course. We were fortunate to be guided by a talented trainer and past Paradian, Bailey Cumming, whose expertise was matched only by his patience as we navigated the high-pressure world of specialty coffee.

The highlight of the day was the transition from theory to practice, where we stepped behind the machine to serve actual customers. While the stakes were high, the rewards were higher - mostly because we finally learned that latte art is much harder than it looks on Instagram. Our creations ranged from professional-grade hearts to what can only be described as abstract clouds, but the laughter and learning remained constant. It was a fantastic opportunity to gain real-world hospitality skills, and we walked away with a wealth of new knowledge, a few caffeine jitters, and a deep respect for the craft of the perfect brew.
