We officially welcomed back all our students to Term Two on Monday 20 April. We hope that you enjoyed Easter with your families and friends, and that students have come back to school with a renewed focus on their studies and ready to fully participate in all of the opportunities available to them at Parade.
We remember that Old Paradians fought and died in each major campaign and there are many Old Paradians serving in Australia’s armed forces today. We particularly remember those that served in the 1st and 2nd World Wars and the Vietnam War in the Honour Boards in the Hickey Foyer. The chief architect of the first ANZAC Day solemn service was an Anglican priest, Canon David John Garland, who pictured an All Souls’ Day for Australia in 1916, to commemorate the losses suffered at Gallipoli. His wish was for the service to be acceptable to all faiths and denominations, or it would not be observed. I think observing ANZAC Day provides an opportunity for all of us to reflect on life and its meaning and its tragedies.
ANZAC Day, whilst in many ways a secular ceremony, has spiritual components that resonate for us as a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition - be it in the sacrifice, in the lowering of the flag, the bugle call, the minute’s silence. As people of faith, we would believe that's God calls to us in these sacred moments.
Lest We Forget

On Tuesday 5 May, the feast day of Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice is celebrated around the world. As a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition, we offer both hope and inspiration to our young people, and aim to live out of the Charism of Blessed Edmund. The Charter for schools in the Edmund Rice Tradition highlights our four Touchstones, which guide us in our daily mission.
One of the Touchstones of the Charter, Liberating Education, can be summarised here:
‘Empowered by liberating teaching and learning experiences, we open our hearts and minds, so that we are hope-filled and free to build a better world for all.’
As we note in another Touchstone, Justice & Solidarity, it is Jesus’ message of compassion, justice, and peace that we seek to make a living reality for all people. As a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition, we are invited to think about the challenges that other people face, and to see how we can contribute to God’s mission of making the world a better place for all.
Next week we will take the opportunity to reflect on the life of Blessed Edmund Rice and celebrate his life’s mission.
We look forward to the upcoming musical production of Beauty and the Beast with Santa Maria College. Our students have been thoroughly enjoying the rehearsals, and we look forward to a wonderful show in the month of May. This year the musical will be staged at Santa Maria College. I sincerely thank all the staff from both schools for their efforts in working with the students in the lead up to these shows.
As we approach Mother's Day, it is essential to recognize and honour the profound impact mothers have in shaping our lives and communities. Whether it's through their unconditional love, unwavering support, or invaluable guidance, mothers play a pivotal role in nurturing future generations. This special day offers us the opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation for all that they do. Let's take this moment to celebrate and cherish the remarkable women in our lives, acknowledging their immeasurable contributions to our personal growth and collective wellbeing.
Thank you to all families who participated in this year’s student progress interviews. The evening of in-person interviews was encouraging, as we witnessed many thoughtful and productive conversations between families and teachers across both campuses. Communication between home and school plays an important role in supporting student learning and wellbeing, and we encourage families to continue reaching out to teachers whenever questions arise regarding their child’s progress.
Last term, our Year 10 students took part in Mock Interviews as part of their Term 1 Career Development program. Students demonstrated an impressive level of professionalism and preparation, having developed tailored CVs and cover letters aligned to their chosen positions. Interviewers commented positively on the maturity, confidence, and commitment shown by students throughout the process. Our sincere thanks to the volunteer interviewers who generously shared their time and expertise by acting as employers, as well as to our Careers Advisors for coordinating such a valuable and learning experience.
As we approach the end of Semester 1, students in Years 8 to 11 at Bundoora Campus will soon begin preparations for their semester examinations. Families are encouraged to refer to the relevant year level sections of this newsletter for important dates, expectations, and further information.
We would like to remind families of the following Student Free Days scheduled for Semester 1.
Staff Professional Learning Days:
Report Finalisation Day:
Students are not required to attend school on these days.
Following the conclusion of the Year 8 to 11 examination period, Semester Two will commence on 22 June. Student timetables are carefully constructed to maximise access to elective subjects. As students transition into new electives, some may also experience a change in teacher for certain year-long subjects. As academic programs continue to expand and offer a broader range of elective opportunities, these timetable adjustments are sometimes necessary to accommodate student selections and to ensure balanced and effective class groupings.
We invite all interested Year 9 families and Bundoora Campus Year 10 families to attend our information evening at Bundoora Campus on Thursday 11 June. This evening will provide valuable information about our 2027 program options.
For current Year 9 students and families:
For current Year 10 Students:
Please note that the Sport Academy information is specifically for current Year 10 students based at the Bundoora Campus. For any questions regarding ERPP and VCE VM, please contact me or the College Career Advisors at https://www.paradecollegecareers.com.au
Additional details about presentation times will be provided closer to the date. Applications for these limited programs will be due by the end of Term 2.
All Year 12 VCE VM including Sport Academy Students based at Bundoora will sit the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Tuesday 16 June at the Greening Auditorium, Bundoora Campus.
VCE VM students who are not enrolled in any VCE or scored VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequences will only complete Section A of the test. This section assesses literacy and numeracy through a 2-part writing task. Whilst this is on at the same time as the Work Learning Program, the GAT takes precedence and should attend Bundoora Campus on this day.
The GAT plays a crucial role by enabling students to demonstrate that they meet the Victorian Literacy and Numeracy Standards required at the senior secondary level. No special study is needed, past learning in Literacy and Numeracy will support students in completing the test. Each student will receive a GAT Statement of Results, which will indicate whether they have met the literacy and numeracy standards.
For further details, please refer to official communication from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).
Year 10 and 11 preparation and exams will commence in a few weeks’ time. Students should be encouraged to allocate time not only for homework, but to revise for the semester examinations as well. In the coming weeks, students will also receive detailed instructions and tips on how to best prepare for their exams.
Year 10 and 11 students will have exams in all subjects.
Year 10 and 11 exams will be held from Monday 1 June to Friday 12 June. All students are required to wear their correct full school uniform in all exams. Sport uniforms may not be worn, except by those involved in ACC Sport on the day of the exam.
Note: Year 10 and 11 students are required to attend school for only the times of their exams plus 30 minutes prior. There will be no Tutor Group on these days for Year 10s and 11s.
Study halls will be available in the NLC for any student remaining at school during normal school hours. If a student does not attend a Year 10 or 11 examination, if possible, it will be rescheduled only for approved school events (e.g. ACC Sport) or upon presentation of a medical certificate.

Year 8 and 9 preparation and exams will commence from 15 June. Students are encouraged to allocate time not only for homework, but to revise for the semester examinations as well. In the coming weeks, students will also receive detailed instructions and tips on how to best prepare for their exams.
The following Year 8 subjects will have an examination in both semesters this year.
The following Year 9 subjects will have an examination in both semesters this year.
Year 8: Monday 15 June to Wednesday 17 June
Year 9: Monday 15 June to Thursday 18 June
Note: There will be no ExCEL classes on Wednesday 17 June. All Year 9 students will be based at Bundoora Campus for the day.
Regular timetabled classes run for Year 8 and 9 students when they are not in exams. We seek your support in ensuring your child is at school for the full day during examinations. All students are required to wear their correct full school uniform in all exams. Sport uniforms may only be worn on the designated ACC Sport days.
Where a Year 8 or 9 student is unable to attend an examination, it may not be possible to have the exam rescheduled. If a student misses an exam due to illness, then they will receive the grade ‘X-Special Circumstance’ for that task. Students absent for an exam due to an approved school event (e.g. ACC Sport) will be notified of an alternative time to sit the examination that was missed.
Please contact Ms Nadia Bonvicino, Dean of Learning- Year 7 to 9 if you have questions regarding Year 8 or 9 examinations.
Important information for Year 9 families interested in their child being enrolled in the 2027 ERPP based at Preston Campus can be found in the VCE VM section of this Newsletter.
Study Support Sessions are lunch time opportunities for students to complete outstanding homework or class tasks. Teachers at Bundoora Campus may refer your child for a study support session. All students from Year 7 to Year 12 at Bundoora are eligible for a study support session. Parents are notified of their child’s enrolment by an automatic letter. We continue to seek parental support in encouraging all students to check SIMON each afternoon and ensure independent home learning tasks are completed.
Parents should contact subject teachers directly if they have questions about their child’s progress or completion of work.
Term 1 saw a busy and productive start to the year at Preston Campus, with students engaging in a wide range of learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
A key highlight of the term was the Work Learning Placements, which ran from 23 March to 2 April. This program provided students with valuable real-world experience across a variety of industries, helping them to develop employability skills, build confidence, and explore potential career pathways. Feedback from employers was overwhelmingly positive, with many students commended for their attitude, effort, and willingness to learn.
It has also been fantastic to see a number of our Year 11 and 12 students begin or continue their School-Based Apprenticeships, which remain a highly valued pathway at the College. These opportunities allow students to gain hands-on industry experience while continuing their education, supporting strong post-school transitions.
In addition, our Sport Academy students undertook their work placements in the final week of term, with many gaining experiences in a range of sporting environments. These placements provided students with practical insight into the sports industry and helped further develop their skills and understanding in real-world settings.

Our Year 10 students also had the opportunity to attend excursions to the Banyule Nillumbik Tech School as part of their STEAM studies. During these sessions, students focused on developing their own business ideas, with a strong emphasis on marketing and advertising. They designed business logos and created promotional materials to represent their brand. A highlight of the experience was the hands-on use of technology, where students utilised laser cutters to produce their own wooden keyrings featuring their designs, as well as creating custom stickers to take home. These excursions provided an engaging and practical insight into entrepreneurship, design thinking, and modern manufacturing processes.

Many students also attended an excursion to the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, where they experienced one of Melbourne’s largest international events. During the visit, students explored a range of career pathways linked to the event, including engineering, media, marketing, logistics, and sporting operations. They also enjoyed the atmosphere of the event while gaining insight into the scale and complexity of delivering a world-class sporting spectacle.
In the sporting arena, we celebrate a significant milestone for the College. Congratulations to the Senior Girls Cricket Team, who were crowned champions of the CGSAV Indoor Cricket competition towards the end of Term 1. This achievement marks a historic moment as the first premiership won by a girls’ team at Parade College. The team’s success is a testament to their commitment, teamwork, and determination throughout the competition.
A special thank you goes to Mr Shoesmith for his expert coaching and guidance. His dedication and support played a crucial role in the team’s success, and this victory sets a strong foundation for future girls’ sport at the College.
Throughout Term 1, there was also a strong focus on maintaining high standards in punctuality, student appearance, and adherence to College expectations regarding mobile phones, with a clear expectation of no phone use during the school day. Students responded well to these expectations, demonstrating a positive commitment to arriving on time, wearing the correct uniform, and following College guidelines. As we move into Term 2, these areas will remain a key focus to ensure consistency and uphold the high standards of the Parade community.
Term 2 is shaping up to be another exciting and productive period for our students. Our VCE-VM and ERPP students will once again be preparing for their next round of Work Learning Placements, scheduled to take place from June 15 to June 26. Students are currently busy organising their own placements in areas of personal interest, continuing to build valuable workplace skills and career awareness.
Our Sport Academy students will also undertake their placements from 22 June to 26 June, further strengthening their experience and understanding of the sports industry. There will also be a wide range of sporting opportunities throughout the term, with many students representing the College across a variety of sports. We look forward to seeing continued participation, teamwork, and success both on and off the field.
Overall, Term 1 has showcased the strength of our Preston Campus community, with students demonstrating resilience, engagement, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. We look forward to building on this momentum in Term 2.
Our Wellbeing Team welcomes you and your child back to Term 2. I hope all our families enjoyed some peaceful and fun-filled moments with each other throughout the Easter holidays. We look forward to settling in again and assisting students and families as we continue into the school year.
Communication was sent to all families and student emails in the first week of the school holidays to assist with your winter uniform preparation and general appearance expectations. This included a letter outlining the required Winter Uniform items and the Uniform Policy. Hopefully, this assisted in the preparation of uniform items for your child for the commencement of the term.
The Student Wellbeing Team was out and about at the buses to greet our students last week and will continue to greet the students each morning as they arrive. Given the colder weather, please ensure your child has the additional warmer College garments, these items can be purchased online or at the Bundoora Campus Uniform Shop https://academyuniforms.com.au/.
The College blazer, tie, and winter long sleeved shirts are all essential items as part of our College Academic Winter Uniform and students must wear these to and from school when they are wearing their academic uniform.
The jumper can be worn beneath the blazer; however, it should not be worn on its own as outerwear.
The College’s Bundoora Campus Uniform Shop is open each Tuesday and Friday. Please see the times outlined below, and flyers can be found on SIMON in the Student Bulletin each day.
Bundoora Campus Uniform Shop Opening Hours
Located in A16 (Main Reception Building)
Staff will be checking student uniforms as they arrive at school and classes, if necessary, alerting the relevant House Leaders/Wellbeing Leaders of students wearing incorrect uniforms. Your child’s Tutor Teacher may require further clarification and communication, in this case, you may receive a phone call or email.
This term, Friday 22 May, Parade College provides staff time to engage with expert guest speakers in the areas of further developing Student Wellbeing. We are thrilled to be joined by Martin Heppell, Resilience and Wellbeing Speaker, as our Keynote presenter. A range of teacher experts will present information to staff on topics including fostering growth mindset in students, managing work avoidance and classroom anxiety, promoting mental health in the classroom and safe and inclusive classrooms. External providers, Toolbox education and Restorative pathways, will also be joining us for additional workshops. We trust the day will be a fruitful learning opportunity for staff to continue to support students to flourish in all aspects of their school life.
At the beginning of Term 2, our Year 12 students were thrilled to receive their long-awaited memorabilia jumpers. A valued College tradition, these jumpers represent an important milestone in the students’ final year and serve as a meaningful memento of their secondary school journey.
Students who placed orders earlier in the year were excited to collect and wear their personalised jumpers, proudly displaying their surname alongside the Class of 2026 design. Since their arrival, the jumpers have quickly become a common sight across the campus, contributing to a strong sense of connection and shared identity within the Year 12 cohort.
We hope these jumpers provide a lasting reminder of the friendships formed, the achievements celebrated, and the many experiences that have shaped their time at the College.

We kindly ask for your support in keeping our school community healthy.
If your child is feeling unwell, even if symptoms seem mild, please keep them at home. Illnesses spread very easily in school settings, and one sick student can quickly lead to many others becoming unwell. This not only affects learning but can pose a risk to students or staff who may be more vulnerable to infection.
Sending an unwell child to school often results in them feeling worse and needing to be collected early. Rest at home is usually the quickest way to recovery.
We appreciate your partnership in protecting the wellbeing of all members of our school community.
Welcome back to Term 2!
I hope you all enjoyed the break and are ready for what is to come. Term 2 is full of action for all. We have some unbelievable events coming up this term with the marquee footy and soccer matches included. (You will hear more of what is to come in the coming weeks)
Keep in mind that on 8 May, the College will be doing the annual Solidarity Walk. Both campuses will be involved in this celebration.
Once again, get involved every way you can. This term has a lot to offer, do not miss out! Even if you're hesitant, just give it a go. All the best for the term ahead!
Jacob Greco- College Captain
Term 1 saw the Parade girls involved in many different initiatives, both sporting and co-curricular, showcasing their enthusiasm, teamwork, and commitment to the wider school community. Their active participation has set a positive tone for the year ahead, with many of the students already demonstrating leadership and resilience across a range of activities.
The Parade girls have had a strong start to the year. Last term the indoor cricket girls won the CGSAV premiership, a historic moment as the first female Parade sport win. Building on this success, we are continuing to develop our skills and teamwork, with upcoming games in basketball, hockey, and football scheduled throughout the term.

Our Year 8 Altior Humanities students recently designed their own real-world business concepts and presented their pitches at the Business Showcase Evening, held in the Rivergum Theatre on Thursday 19 March. Presenting to peers, families, and College leadership, students demonstrated confidence, creativity, teamwork, and strong communication skills. The evening was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate their hard work and share their ideas with an authentic audience. Thank you to our special guests for attending, to Ms. Emma Mihocic for her support, and congratulations to all students on a highly successful event.

Winning the 2026 Business Showcase at Parade College was an unforgettable moment for me and my partner Sathyan. What started as a simple idea based on existing brands grew over weeks of planning, thinking, and creativity, turning our business into something real. Along the way, we spent many hours working, thinking about ideas, and making sure our business plan looked professional and could succeed. While it was not easy, we learned a lot about teamwork, creativity and gained the experience of making a real business which is something we really value. We are incredibly grateful to Ms Sadigi, Ms Mihocic, and all the staff at Parade College for their guidance, encouragement, and support throughout this project. While we may have won, every one of our classmates’ business ideas was impressive.
The Year 8 Altior class worked collaboratively in pairs and presented their innovative and unique business ideas, which they spent close to a term designing. Our ideas ranged from solar panels to ice cream - so basically, saving the planet and eating it at the same time. Each presentation was engaging and entertaining. Time was allocated to planning, research, and practice. Personally, this event addressed one of my personal interests, economics, and helped develop crucial skills such as communication and collaboration. This was an extremely fun and engaging event, and I would love to do this again. Thank you Ms Sadigi and to all the other teachers and members of leadership who took time out of their busy schedules to attend and help run this amazing night.
With a packed calendar full of some of our favourite events for the year, Term 2 is sure to bring lots of fantastic memories for our music students, including the upcoming Generations in Jazz Camp in Mt Gambier in early May, along with our College Production of Beauty and The Beast at Santa Maria College in Northcote in late May. Term 1 also finished with a flurry of activity, including:
The Year 10 and VCE Music classes travelled to the city and attended the VCE Top Class Music Concert, where they saw the top achievers in Music Performance from 2025 showcase their works at the Melbourne Recital Centre. The performances were extremely engaging and valuable for the students to witness.

In the final week of Term 1, students in our Drumline went to St Bernard's College in Essendon to participate in an ACC hosted music workshop to further their skills and make new friends. This workshop was presented by D-2, a professional Drumline academy specialising in education, masterclasses, and professional performances.

Our college Big Band have been busy preparing for their annual trip to Mount Gambier to compete at 'Generations in Jazz' on Saturday 2 May. The band will be accompanied by Mr Stark, Mr Watson and Mr Saragossi and perform amongst hundreds of other schools from around the country. As well as performing, the students will engage in workshops and attend performances by some top industry professionals both nationally and internationally. This year the headlining act is the world-famous soul band, Tower of Power, all the way from Oakland, California! We wish The Parade College Big Band an enjoyable trip and all the best for their performances!
“Be our guest” as you step into the magical world of Disney’s Beauty and The Beast, presented in conjunction with Santa Maria College in Northcote, and hosted at their Benedictine Theatre this year.
With production week fast approaching and there is one very important job for you to do right now…please get yourself a ticket to see our wonderful students showcase their hard work!

A friendly reminder to families that if a student is enrolled in instrumental lessons at Parade College, they must attend a weekly ensemble rehearsal. This is a non-negotiable condition of enrolment in Music lessons. Please check with your instrumental teacher or Mr Cameron Stark if you are unsure which ensemble students should be a part of. For students not attending rehearsal for valid reasons (committee meetings, excursions) an email to the ensemble leader in advance if possible is best practice.
As we launch into Term 2, we wish our students and families all the best for the upcoming weeks. Please do not hesitate to contact the Music department via music@parade.vic.edu.au with any questions.
It is compulsory for all students in Year 10 at Bundoora Campus to complete Work Experience on 16 to 19 November. We encourage students to search for a workplace in which they are interested. Students will have access to the Work Experience form on SIMON.
It is important for students to contact a workplace for Work Experience as soon as possible.Students can speak with their Careers teacher if they have any questions or make an appointment with Mrs Bult or Ms Barnes through the Online Booking system.
https://www.paradecollegecareers.com.au/
All Year 12 students are required to make a careers appointment with Mrs Bult or Ms Barnes to discuss pathway options for the end of Year 12.
Students can use the Online Booking system to do this. https://www.paradecollegecareers.com.au/
Early Entry Programs let students secure a conditional offer before ATAR results are released. They are becoming increasingly popular because they reduce pressure and reward consistent effort over time.
These programs are available for students at the following universities:
It has been pleasing to see students from the lower year levels stepping up to participate and demonstrating the commitment they have to community engagement and social justice. Year 7 students Oliver Vidic T11 and Oliver Watts T19 have been popular volunteers with our patrons, adding enthusiasm and energy to the Tuesday morning breakfast routine.
Our regular senior school students have consistently fostered the supportive atmosphere of community action through their leadership. Specifically, Year 12 students Orlando Pettinella T07 and Nicholas Fernandes, N01, and Year 11 student Harry Pitts L08, have played a pivotal role in leading the new student volunteers.
Any students wanting to participate are asked to come and speak to me in the Community Action Centre.
Whether you prefer it extra hot or with a double shot, the College was buzzing today as myself and four other Bluestone Café student volunteers participated in an intensive, full-day Barista course. We were fortunate to be guided by a talented trainer and past Paradian, Bailey Cumming, whose expertise was matched only by his patience as we navigated the high-pressure world of specialty coffee.
The highlight of the day was the transition from theory to practice, where we stepped behind the machine to serve actual customers. While the stakes were high, the rewards were higher - mostly because we finally learned that latte art is much harder than it looks on Instagram. Our creations ranged from professional-grade hearts to what can only be described as abstract clouds, but the laughter and learning remained constant. It was a fantastic opportunity to gain real-world hospitality skills, and we walked away with a wealth of new knowledge, a few caffeine jitters, and a deep respect for the craft of the perfect brew.

The Brisbane tournament provided an excellent platform for our group to test themselves both on and off the pitch. Across the entire trip—from the airport to the accommodation, during downtime, and throughout matchdays—the boys conducted themselves with maturity, respect, and a strong sense of team identity. Their behaviour reflected positively on Parade College and demonstrated the standards we expect from players representing the Manchester City program.
From a footballing perspective, the level of competition was exactly what this group needed. Each match challenged the boys in different ways, offering a balance of technical, tactical, and physical demands that aligned well with their current stage of development. The tournament environment allowed them to apply training concepts under pressure, compete against unfamiliar opposition, and grow collectively as a squad.

At the end of Term 1, VCE Physical Education students went to La Trobe University to undertake VO2 Max testing as part of their studies. This test measures the total amount of oxygen that the body can process during high intensity exercise to indicate an athlete’s aerobic level of fitness. It requires the participants to wear a mask measuring the total amount of air being inhaled and exhaled as they cycled at increasing intensities over a 20-minute period.
Two students from each class conducted the VO2 Max Test, whilst remaining students assisted the technicians to ensure accurate results were obtained from the test. Some boys were also able to complete a 30 second Windgate test that measures the peak power of the athlete and how quickly they fatigue during maximal activity.
The data gathered from this practical was used in their most recent SAC and will serve as a great example to use during revision later in the year. Well done to the boys who volunteered to participate in the testing, some impressive results were seen. This group now looks forward to a golf simulator excursion coming up in Term 2 to assist them with their understanding of biomechanics.
