PARADE COLLEGE
X

This term has been a busy and successful one for our music students. From strong performances at Generations in Jazz to wrapping up our production of The Wedding Singer, there has been plenty happening across all areas of our music program. As we reach the midpoint of the term, it is a perfect time to reflect on the incredible achievements and hard work of our music students.

Generations in Jazz

At the start of May our College Big Band travelled to Mount Gambier with Mr Watson, Ms Calia, and Mr Saragossi to compete at Generations in Jazz. I am pleased to say they performed particularly well and placed second in their division against over 40 other schools. Kit Adlard Year 12 B03, on trumpet, and Luca Caporale Year 10 L07, on guitar were chosen for the competition’s Super Band, which is a selection in each division of the best students on each instrument. Well done to everyone who performed and to our students who conducted themselves extremely well over the weekend.

ACCent on Music

Students have attended two rehearsals this term for ACCent on Music. ACCent on Music sees all ACC schools collaborate in a joint concert at Hamer Hall in September. Joint rehearsals began at the end of Term 1 and will continue into Term 3. This is a great opportunity for our students to engage with musicians from other schools and participate in a combined concert that will feature up to 600 musicians.

The Wedding Singer Musical Production

We have just finished our show-run for The Wedding Singer; our annual musical production with Santa Maria College. The show was a great success, and our students performed brilliantly. With a cast and crew of over 150 students and staff this team effort was the result of everyone’s commitment and expertise. Special mention must be made to our lead actors – Luca Caporale Year 10 L07, Christian Dang Year 11 L04, Lucas Scicluna Year 12 B08 and Marcus Rao Year 11 N01, who did us proud. Well done to Kit Adlard Year 12 B03 who performed in the band and to Orlando Saltalamacchia Year 11 T05, and Christian D'Aprano Year 12 T02 who headed up our backstage crew. There are too many names to mention everybody, and our sincere thanks goes out to everyone for making this experience a wonderful memory for all involved.

Harwyn Rocking the Nation

Our student band, The Liffeys, are to be congratulated for being selected for the Top 9 Grand Final of the Harwyn Rocking the Nation battle of the bands competition. They competed against entries from across all of Australia and are up against some strong competition. The Grand Final will take place on Sunday 10 August at the Alexander Theatre. The Liffeys are comprised of Noah La Torre Year 10, H08, Angus Tucker Year 12, L04, and Luca Caporale Year 10 L07. We wish them all the be best in the lead up to the event.

As Term 2 continues we wish our students and families all the best for the upcoming weeks. A reminder that students can sign up for music lessons via this link or the sign-up sheet on the College website.
