This page contains information about courses and subjects that Parade College offers for both the core studies and the Year 9 Elective Curriculum structure.
We ask Year 8 students to choose a course for Year 9 electives, plus reserves. It is worth remembering that no unit can be undertaken more than once. Students have an opportunity to exercise more choice in Year 9 electives.
In addition to the subject offerings, the Year 9 ExCEL program offers Year 9 students a variety of Extended Learning Projects, as well as learning4life: a series of Personal Development seminars. Details of this exciting learning program are available on the Year 9 ExCEL page.
You will notice that Parade College offers a wide choice of units, however, it must be stressed that final offerings will, of course, depend on student numbers and availability of both staff and resources. Although the courses are correct at the time of posting, it should be understood that courses are revised on a systematic basis and some of these details will, from time to time, undergo revision. Please also note that all courses (including core subjects) are semester-based and will not necessarily have the same student cohort or teacher for subjects that run for two semesters. Except for compelling cases, once timetabled, students in Years 7-10 are not able to make changes to their elective subjects. Finding a subject no longer enjoyable or discovering it to be more challenging than expected are not considered compelling reasons for making changes to elective subjects. In such situations, it is preferable that students and their parents work with their son’s teacher to support them through their learning.

Students are required to undertake a number of units from each of the Learning Areas. This permits access to a wide range of future educational opportunities.
Students undertake 7 Units each semester or 14 units each year.

Students participate in sport throughout the year. Those who compete in ACC sport do so on a Tuesday afternoon.

The Year 9 ExCEL program will take place on most Wednesdays throughout the year, with the exception of examination times and the Camp Week.
All students will participate in four learning4life seminar offerings and three Extended Learning Projects. The offerings in both learning4life and the Extended Learning Projects are outlined below.
The learning4life seminars are a chance for students to develop their awareness of and skills for living as teenagers (and beyond) in the 21st century.
Each of the learning4life choices consists of two full day seminars, presented at both Preston and Bundoora campuses . Each students participates in two compulsory learning4life seminars, then has guided choices for the two other learning4life seminar series.

The Extended Learning Projects provide students with the chance to explore a specific area of interest in an in-depth way, with off-campus excursions that frequently involve students developing and practising independent learning and travel skills. Students will submit formative assessment every week as well as working towards a significant research or production piece for presentation and assessment at the conclusion of each 8-week program.
Each of the Extended Learning Projects consists of 8 full days, spread across 8 weeks. The delivery of the programs will involve a mixture of sites, including the Bundoora and Preston campuses as well as external venues. Each students will choose 3 Extended Learning Projects from the list below.
