Last Thursday evening many of our wonderful music students performed to a packed-out Rivergum Theatre audience. Lots of energy and passion, with so many talented students and staff on stage. We sincerely congratulate the students for showcasing their musical talents and our musical staff for their ongoing dedication in working with our students throughout the year.
Last night many staff and students had the privilege of attending the opening night of joint Drama production with Mercy College, Coburg: “Clue – The High School Edition.” The students and staff have been busy preparing for the show. If you have not purchased tickets, you may be lucky enough to get some to the remaining two shows, tonight or tomorrow night in the Rivergum Theatre. Good luck to everyone involved.

Our annual Father’s/Carers Day Breakfast is fast approaching and will be held on Tuesday 8 September. We hope to see many people in attendance.
At Parade College we are continuously striving to build a culture of respect, emphasising the importance of having and maintaining positive relationships and supporting each other, so that we can build our resilience to enable us to be at our best and to meet any challenges that come our way.
Thank you to all staff, students, and families who participated in this term's subject selection process. We recognise that discussing post-secondary plans can be challenging, particularly as young people make decisions in a world that offers more opportunities and career possibilities than ever before. We understand that your child's interests and choices may sometimes surprise you or differ from your expectations. This is a normal part of their development, and our role is to work together to explore their strengths and guide them toward suitable pathways.
While we will make every effort to accommodate students preferred subject combinations, there are times when timetabling, staffing, class viability, and facility constraints mean this is not possible. In some cases, a subject may not attract sufficient student enrolments for the College to run the class. In other instances, a subject may be highly sought after, with enrolment demand exceeding the number of classes the College can reasonably offer. This can be particularly challenging in subjects where specialist facilities limit the number of classes that can be scheduled. Traditionally, this has been the case with Food Studies in Years 7, 9, and 10.
Where a student is unable to be placed into one of their preferred electives, every effort will be made to allocate them to their highest ranked reserve subject. When these situations arise, we will work with your child to identify alternatives that still support their goals. We appreciate your understanding throughout this process. Students and families should expect to receive their child’s elective subject allocation in mid-November.
As we approach the end of Term 3, we encourage all parents and carers to participate in the final Student Progress Interviews for 2026. All interviews will be conducted online via Microsoft Teams, with bookings made through PAM.

Regular attendance and punctuality remain essential for students in Years 10–12, particularly as courses become more demanding and students begin preparing for end-of-year assessments and examinations. Students who miss classes can quickly fall behind in coursework, practical activities, assessment preparation and the development of important knowledge and skills.
Students should take responsibility for communicating with their teachers when they return, checking what learning they have missed and completing any necessary catch-up work within an agreed timeframe. Accessing lesson materials online can assist, but it does not always replace the explanations, discussion, feedback, and practical learning that occur in class.
For VCE students, satisfactory completion of a unit is based on a teacher’s judgement that the student has demonstrated the required key knowledge and skills. Frequent or extended absences may reduce the opportunities available for a student to complete required work and provide sufficient evidence of learning. Where attendance is becoming a concern, families are encouraged to communicate with the College as early as possible so that appropriate support can be considered.
Year 12 students (and accelerating Year 11s) will complete their Trial Examinations during the final week of Term 3, marking an important stage in their preparation for the end-of-year VCAA examinations.
Trial exams are designed to give students an opportunity to practise under conditions that closely resemble their final examinations. While they provide useful feedback about current areas of strength and areas requiring further attention, their greatest value comes from helping students refine the way they prepare, manage their time, and respond to questions under exam conditions.
In the weeks leading up to the trials, students are encouraged to move beyond simply rereading notes and begin completing active exam practice. One of the most valuable resources available is the collection of past VCAA examinations, which can be accessed online through the VCAA website. Students should become familiar with the format of their examinations, the types of questions that regularly appear and the amount of time available for each section.
Past exams can be used in several ways. Early in revision, students might complete individual questions or sections while referring to their notes. As the trial exams approach, they should increasingly attempt questions without assistance and under timed conditions. Where possible, completing a full examination within the allocated time is excellent preparation for the demands of the real exam.
Students should also make use of VCAA examination reports and suggested solutions, where available. These provide valuable insight into how questions have been assessed in previous years and often identify common mistakes made by students. Rather than simply checking whether an answer is right or wrong, students should consider why marks were lost and what they would need to do differently next time.
Effective preparation should also be targeted. Students are encouraged to identify the topics, skills, or question types they currently find most difficult and deliberately spend time addressing these areas. Teachers can assist students to identify priorities and provide advice about the most effective ways to revise for their particular subject.
Just as importantly, students should establish sustainable routines during the lead-up to exams. Regular study across the week is generally more effective than relying on lengthy last-minute sessions. Maintaining appropriate sleep, exercise and breaks will also help students sustain their concentration during what can be a demanding period.
Following the trial exams, students should carefully review their results and teacher feedback. The trials are not the end point of preparation but an opportunity to identify what needs to happen next. With several weeks remaining before the VCAA examinations, students will still have considerable time to strengthen areas of weakness, practise exam technique and build confidence.
We encourage all Year 12 students to approach the trial examination period positively and to make full use of the support, resources, and expertise available to them at school.
The Nano Nagle Tutoring program, which sees high-achieving Old Paradian students from the Class of 2025 tutoring our current VCE students, continues in Term 3. The program is open to all Year 10-12 students and will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3.30pm to 4.25pm in the VCE Study Centre (MQ28). Students who attend are welcome to receive help or simply study in the area. This is a great opportunity for VCE students to get extra assistance in meeting the demands of the final years of their schooling. This year’s tutors have excelled across English, Literature, all Mathematics subjects (General, Methods, and Specialist), all Science subjects (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Psychology), and a broad range of other VCE subjects.
As students begin to prepare for their end-of-year examinations, they are encouraged to make regular use of Edrolo as part of their revision program.
Edrolo is an online learning platform that provides video lessons, revision materials, structured notes, quizzes, and practice questions. It allows students to revisit key concepts at their own pace, pause and replay explanations, check their understanding and identify areas requiring further revision.
Used alongside classwork, teacher feedback, and practice examinations, Edrolo can help students consolidate their knowledge, strengthen their confidence, and develop effective independent study habits. Students are encouraged to use the platform regularly rather than relying on it only immediately before an assessment or examination.

Families can support students by encouraging them to include Edrolo in a consistent and balanced revision timetable as examinations approach.
Students who are absent for a SAC are reminded to obtain a medical certificate to present to their teacher upon their return. Generally, missed SACs are rescheduled to Thursday afternoons and can go as late as 5.15pm, so students should avoid scheduling part-time work or other commitments on this day. Rescheduled SACs are generally held in room MQ26.
It was encouraging to receive many applications for acceleration into a Unit 1-2 VCE subject for Year 10 2027 students. The Acceleration Panel has been convened to review all applications. The outcome of these applications will be emailed to families early in Term 4.

As part of their current studies in SISSPAR004 – Participate in Conditioning for Sport, Year 11 Sport Academy students from Preston Campus recently visited the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) for an inspiring and educational learning experience.
Students were given a guided tour of the VIS’s world-class training facilities, gaining first-hand insight into the environments that support Victoria’s elite athletes. A highlight of the visit was the opportunity to hear from Olympians Stacey Hymer and Tinka Easton, who shared their personal journeys, training routines, and the dedication required to compete at the highest level of sport.
The athletes spoke openly about balancing training, competition, recovery, and personal commitments, providing students with a valuable understanding of the discipline, resilience, and mindset needed to achieve success in high-performance sport.
The excursion enabled students to connect classroom learning with real-world sporting pathways while experiencing the innovative facilities and support systems available to elite athletes in Victoria. It was an engaging and motivating day that reinforced the importance of goal setting, commitment, and continuous improvement—qualities that our Sport Academy students strive to develop both on and off the field.
As part of their Personal Development program, the Year 11 cohort will have the opportunity to visit RIMERN (Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network) this week, with Year 11 C, D and F attending on Wednesday, followed by Year 11 A and B on Thursday.
RIMERN is a collaborative Rotary initiative supporting people experiencing significant life challenges, including homelessness, domestic violence, incarceration, refugee displacement, and other crises. The organisation works with welfare agencies to provide essential furniture, appliances and homewares to individuals and families as they establish or rebuild their homes.
In preparation for the excursion, students have been encouraged to consider how they might contribute to RIMERN's important work. A list of suitable items has been provided to students, giving families the opportunity to donate practical household goods if they are able to do so.
The visit will provide students with a valuable opportunity to develop their understanding of community service, social responsibility, and the ways in which individuals can make a meaningful difference to the lives of others.
Students are reminded to wear their full, correct Sport Academy uniform for the excursion.
Learning4Life rotations have concluded for the Year 9s, completing units that aim to develop personal skills that can be used beyond the classroom. The units offered gave students the opportunity to learn about a range of topics including managing money and making financial decisions, growing fresh produce and preparing seasonal dishes, map reading and other basic outdoor skills, or even developing logical thinking strategies. Alongside these practical skills, students learn to work with different groups of peers, build relationships outside of their usual friendship group and reflect on how their choices can affect themselves and others. The ‘Career Voyager’ rotation encouraged students to reflect on their personal strengths and interests to consider future pathways that may be of interest to them.
Year 9s will begin their final Extended Learning Project (ELP) block this week (2 September). As always, classes can be based at Preston or Bundoora Campus. Classes based at Preston Campus will have a timetabled room beginning with ‘R’ or ‘K.’

On Monday 27 July, the Year 10 cohort participated in an all-day seminar with Your Choicez. The Your Choicez seminar is an important part of the development of our students at Parade College. We have hosted David Kobler, co-founder of Your Choicez and program facilitator, at Parade College over many years where he has spoken to parents and students about the issues pertinent to our young people and has supported parents in how to have these conversations with their children. Specifically, David has discussed the topics of Relationships, Safe Sexual Decision Making, Pornography, Consent + Sexual Ethics, Identity + Pressures and Love.
David recently shared some amazing feedback he received from our Year 10 students, and I share this with you now below. It is encouraging to see the positive impact programs like this are having on our young men and heart-warming to see their willingness to learn and grow, even when the topics can be difficult to discuss. We thank the parents for their support and encourage them to continue the fruitful conversations that the boys had when participating in the program.
I am a Year 10 student at Parade and I was really shocked and surprised at some of the information that was discussed. It was useful information to learn and was presented in an intriguing way... I was happy with what I had learnt and almost proud that I went to school and actually had a good day.
I was in the Year 10 seminar on the 27th of July, and it was amazingly helpful. I know it was uncomfortable at times, but it got through to me and my mates...Thank you to David for this seminar. It helped me out a lot with my understanding of these topics and it improved how I see them and how I can use these in real life situations. Thank you.
The seminar did not make me leave with fear, but a new understanding of the way things work. It opened my mind to new things I never took into consideration before.
I was in your Year 10 student seminar today and I just wanted to say, thank you SO much. I walked away feeling like I learnt SO many important things that I will use forever. National Week of Action Against Bullying 17 August - 21 August
With the National Week of Action Against Bullying highlighting the theme 'Small Acts, Big Impact', this is an excellent opportunity to strengthen our understanding of bullying and our collective role in creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.
Creating a safe and supportive learning environment begins with understanding what bullying is and challenging common misconceptions that can prevent effective action. Bullying is an ongoing and intentional misuse of power in relationships that causes physical, social, or psychological harm.
The three key elements of bullying are power imbalance, repetition, and intentional harm. A power imbalance may relate to social status, physical strength, age, experience, or group size. Bullying is repeated over time, or likely to be repeated, and the behaviour is deliberate and intended to cause distress, exclusion, humiliation, fear, or discomfort.
It is also important to understand what bullying is not. Bullying is not a one-off disagreement, a conflict between people of equal power, an accidental action, or harmless teasing. While these situations may still require support and intervention, they do not meet the definition of bullying unless there is a continuing pattern of harmful behaviour combined with a power imbalance.
Several myths continue to surround bullying. Bullying is not a normal part of growing up and should never be ignored. It is never the fault of the person being targeted, and its impact extends beyond the individual involved to friends, families, bystanders, and the wider community.
The effects of bullying can be significant and long-lasting. They may include anxiety, stress, reduced confidence and self-esteem, social isolation, lower engagement in learning, and ongoing mental health concerns. Online bullying can be particularly harmful because content may remain available and continue to be shared over time.
Preventing and responding to bullying is a shared responsibility. Staff can make a positive difference by recognising the signs, taking concerns seriously, responding promptly and consistently, supporting affected students, and promoting respectful relationships and inclusion.
As we recognise this important national week, let us remember that small acts of kindness, inclusion, and respect can have a big impact. Together, we can create a school community where everyone feels safe, valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.

No doubt one of the biggest highlights in our Music calendar for the year is Parade Presents. This concert allows us to showcase the entire Music department with songs our ensembles have been working hard on all year.
This year, our theme was Parade Presents: The Seasons – songs inspired seasons in the weather, seasons of our lives, or perhaps just a clever play on words, lyrics, titles and artists.
The department was thrilled to play to a full house of keen parents and our wonderful Parade community. Some highlights include our Pop Ensemble with some outstanding four-part vocal harmonies, our junior concert band with a strong showing of new Year 7 musicians, and who will forget Marcus Rao in a wig singing his heart out to Rihanna's Umbrella with a fantastic student-led band of Year 12s!
Planning is already underway for next year’s concert, and we can’t wait to share that with you all in 2027.
Just recently, the College Concert Band travelled to the Hawthorn Arts Centre to participate in the Victorian Schools Music Festival. This yearly event brings together school concert bands from across the state. This festival celebrates music from a range of different genres and styles and seeks to highlight Australian composers. Rather than being a competition, bands are given awards based on their performance against the written music. Our Parade College Concert Band, led by Mr Watson and Mr Brazil, received a Bronze Award for their division. Well done to the Concert Band!
On Friday 21 August, the Associated Catholic Colleges' Music Network hosted a concert band reading and vocal rehearsal day. Bringing together Catholic schools from across Melbourne and regional Victoria, these days give students the opportunity to further their skills with expert tutors and conductors, and to network and make new musical friends. A select group of our Concert Band students were privileged to work with the Royal Australian Air Force Band at Emmanuel College in Point Cook. Some of our vocal students also had the chance to work with local vocal educators and performers Fem Belling and Emma Duncan. A great day was had by all, and we thank Carmelo Puglisi (Director of Music - Emmanuel College) and Paul Fahey (Executive Officer - ACC) for organising this event.

This September, Manchester City Football School at Parade College is offering two exciting holiday camps to help young players have fun, develop their skills and experience the Manchester City way of playing.
Designed for students in Years 3-8, the clinics will run in the first week of the Term 3 School Holidays.
Mixed Gender: Monday 21 Sept - Thursday 24 Sept (4 days)
Girls Only: Tuesday 22 Sept - Wednesday 23 Sept (2 days)
Each day will have a different topic and focus, with age and stage-appropriate sessions delivered directly from the Manchester City Football School methodology. Players will have the opportunity to learn new skills, refine existing skills and develop their understanding of the game through engaging, challenging and enjoyable practices.
Sessions are designed to maximise ball-rolling time and touches on the ball, progressing from small-sided games into larger team games. Throughout the programme, players will be encouraged to make decisions, express themselves and develop their ability to play 'beautiful football'.
All sessions will be delivered by UEFA-qualified coaches from the UK, providing players with an authentic Manchester City Football School experience.

The Mekong Odyssey continues Parade College’s tradition of student-led international expeditions. Beginning in Luang Prabang, the team will live and work alongside a rural community, travel by slow boat along the Mekong, cross overland into Thailand and complete a multi-day trek through the Chiang Dao highlands.
Throughout the journey, students will take increasing responsibility for decisions, navigation, team finances and supporting one another through challenge. The experience is designed to build confidence, resilience and judgement while broadening students’ understanding of the world and their place within it.
At the information evening, we will talk through the itinerary, preparation, safety, cost, and application process, with plenty of time for questions.

On 4 August, Parade College participated in the Frankston Australian Clay Target Competition. The team consisted of Michael B (captain), Joshua, Rocco, Sebastian, Marcel and Michael P. I am incredibly proud of the effort the boys put in, with the team finishing in an impressive 3rd place, just four shots behind 1st. Two Parade students also placed in the top 10 out of 92 shooters, an outstanding achievement. A huge congratulations to Michael Palmieri for placing 3rd in the Junior Boys division. We wish him all the best as he advances to compete in the Victorian School Students Final in Echuca this September.

Our annual Father’s/Carers Day Breakfast is fast approaching and will be held on Tuesday 8 September. We hope to see many people in attendance.
At Parade College we are continuously striving to build a culture of respect, emphasising the importance of having and maintaining positive relationships and supporting each other, so that we can build our resilience to enable us to be at our best and to meet any challenges that come our way.
Thank you to all staff, students, and families who participated in this term's subject selection process. We recognise that discussing post-secondary plans can be challenging, particularly as young people make decisions in a world that offers more opportunities and career possibilities than ever before. We understand that your child's interests and choices may sometimes surprise you or differ from your expectations. This is a normal part of their development, and our role is to work together to explore their strengths and guide them toward suitable pathways.
While we will make every effort to accommodate students preferred subject combinations, there are times when timetabling, staffing, class viability, and facility constraints mean this is not possible. In some cases, a subject may not attract sufficient student enrolments for the College to run the class. In other instances, a subject may be highly sought after, with enrolment demand exceeding the number of classes the College can reasonably offer. This can be particularly challenging in subjects where specialist facilities limit the number of classes that can be scheduled. Traditionally, this has been the case with Food Studies in Years 7, 9, and 10.
Where a student is unable to be placed into one of their preferred electives, every effort will be made to allocate them to their highest ranked reserve subject. When these situations arise, we will work with your child to identify alternatives that still support their goals. We appreciate your understanding throughout this process. Students and families should expect to receive their child’s elective subject allocation in mid-November.
As we approach the end of Term 3, we encourage all parents and carers to participate in the final Student Progress Interviews for 2026. All interviews will be conducted online via Microsoft Teams, with bookings made through PAM.

Interviews with accelerated VCE subject teachers (excluding Religious Education) should be booked during the Year 11 and 12 interview session on Tuesday 8 September.

Details on how to make student progress interview bookings on PAM and how to connect to your child’s teacher are included in the letter that has been emailed to all families.
Regular attendance and punctuality remain essential for students in Years 10–12, particularly as courses become more demanding and students begin preparing for end-of-year assessments and examinations. Students who miss classes can quickly fall behind in coursework, practical activities, assessment preparation and the development of important knowledge and skills.
Students should take responsibility for communicating with their teachers when they return, checking what learning they have missed and completing any necessary catch-up work within an agreed timeframe. Accessing lesson materials online can assist, but it does not always replace the explanations, discussion, feedback, and practical learning that occur in class.
For VCE students, satisfactory completion of a unit is based on a teacher’s judgement that the student has demonstrated the required key knowledge and skills. Frequent or extended absences may reduce the opportunities available for a student to complete required work and provide sufficient evidence of learning. Where attendance is becoming a concern, families are encouraged to communicate with the College as early as possible so that appropriate support can be considered.
Year 12 students (and accelerating Year 11s) will complete their Trial Examinations during the final week of Term 3, marking an important stage in their preparation for the end-of-year VCAA examinations.
Trial exams are designed to give students an opportunity to practise under conditions that closely resemble their final examinations. While they provide useful feedback about current areas of strength and areas requiring further attention, their greatest value comes from helping students refine the way they prepare, manage their time, and respond to questions under exam conditions.
In the weeks leading up to the trials, students are encouraged to move beyond simply rereading notes and begin completing active exam practice. One of the most valuable resources available is the collection of past VCAA examinations, which can be accessed online through the VCAA website. Students should become familiar with the format of their examinations, the types of questions that regularly appear and the amount of time available for each section.
Past exams can be used in several ways. Early in revision, students might complete individual questions or sections while referring to their notes. As the trial exams approach, they should increasingly attempt questions without assistance and under timed conditions. Where possible, completing a full examination within the allocated time is excellent preparation for the demands of the real exam.
Students should also make use of VCAA examination reports and suggested solutions, where available. These provide valuable insight into how questions have been assessed in previous years and often identify common mistakes made by students. Rather than simply checking whether an answer is right or wrong, students should consider why marks were lost and what they would need to do differently next time.
Effective preparation should also be targeted. Students are encouraged to identify the topics, skills, or question types they currently find most difficult and deliberately spend time addressing these areas. Teachers can assist students to identify priorities and provide advice about the most effective ways to revise for their particular subject.
Just as importantly, students should establish sustainable routines during the lead-up to exams. Regular study across the week is generally more effective than relying on lengthy last-minute sessions. Maintaining appropriate sleep, exercise and breaks will also help students sustain their concentration during what can be a demanding period.
Following the trial exams, students should carefully review their results and teacher feedback. The trials are not the end point of preparation but an opportunity to identify what needs to happen next. With several weeks remaining before the VCAA examinations, students will still have considerable time to strengthen areas of weakness, practise exam technique and build confidence.
We encourage all Year 12 students to approach the trial examination period positively and to make full use of the support, resources, and expertise available to them at school.
The Nano Nagle Tutoring program, which sees high-achieving Old Paradian students from the Class of 2025 tutoring our current VCE students, continues in Term 3. The program is open to all Year 10-12 students and will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3.30pm to 4.25pm in the VCE Study Centre (MQ28). Students who attend are welcome to receive help or simply study in the area. This is a great opportunity for VCE students to get extra assistance in meeting the demands of the final years of their schooling. This year’s tutors have excelled across English, Literature, all Mathematics subjects (General, Methods, and Specialist), all Science subjects (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Psychology), and a broad range of other VCE subjects.
As students begin to prepare for their end-of-year examinations, they are encouraged to make regular use of Edrolo as part of their revision program.
Edrolo is an online learning platform that provides video lessons, revision materials, structured notes, quizzes, and practice questions. It allows students to revisit key concepts at their own pace, pause and replay explanations, check their understanding and identify areas requiring further revision.
Used alongside classwork, teacher feedback, and practice examinations, Edrolo can help students consolidate their knowledge, strengthen their confidence, and develop effective independent study habits. Students are encouraged to use the platform regularly rather than relying on it only immediately before an assessment or examination.

Families can support students by encouraging them to include Edrolo in a consistent and balanced revision timetable as examinations approach.
Students who are absent for a SAC are reminded to obtain a medical certificate to present to their teacher upon their return. Generally, missed SACs are rescheduled to Thursday afternoons and can go as late as 5.15pm, so students should avoid scheduling part-time work or other commitments on this day. Rescheduled SACs are generally held in room MQ26.
It was encouraging to receive many applications for acceleration into a Unit 1-2 VCE subject for Year 10 2027 students. The Acceleration Panel has been convened to review all applications. The outcome of these applications will be emailed to families early in Term 4.

As part of their current studies in SISSPAR004 – Participate in Conditioning for Sport, Year 11 Sport Academy students from Preston Campus recently visited the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) for an inspiring and educational learning experience.
Students were given a guided tour of the VIS’s world-class training facilities, gaining first-hand insight into the environments that support Victoria’s elite athletes. A highlight of the visit was the opportunity to hear from Olympians Stacey Hymer and Tinka Easton, who shared their personal journeys, training routines, and the dedication required to compete at the highest level of sport.
The athletes spoke openly about balancing training, competition, recovery, and personal commitments, providing students with a valuable understanding of the discipline, resilience, and mindset needed to achieve success in high-performance sport.
The excursion enabled students to connect classroom learning with real-world sporting pathways while experiencing the innovative facilities and support systems available to elite athletes in Victoria. It was an engaging and motivating day that reinforced the importance of goal setting, commitment, and continuous improvement—qualities that our Sport Academy students strive to develop both on and off the field.
As part of their Personal Development program, the Year 11 cohort will have the opportunity to visit RIMERN (Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network) this week, with Year 11 C, D and F attending on Wednesday, followed by Year 11 A and B on Thursday.
RIMERN is a collaborative Rotary initiative supporting people experiencing significant life challenges, including homelessness, domestic violence, incarceration, refugee displacement, and other crises. The organisation works with welfare agencies to provide essential furniture, appliances and homewares to individuals and families as they establish or rebuild their homes.
In preparation for the excursion, students have been encouraged to consider how they might contribute to RIMERN's important work. A list of suitable items has been provided to students, giving families the opportunity to donate practical household goods if they are able to do so.
The visit will provide students with a valuable opportunity to develop their understanding of community service, social responsibility, and the ways in which individuals can make a meaningful difference to the lives of others.
Students are reminded to wear their full, correct Sport Academy uniform for the excursion.
Learning4Life rotations have concluded for the Year 9s, completing units that aim to develop personal skills that can be used beyond the classroom. The units offered gave students the opportunity to learn about a range of topics including managing money and making financial decisions, growing fresh produce and preparing seasonal dishes, map reading and other basic outdoor skills, or even developing logical thinking strategies. Alongside these practical skills, students learn to work with different groups of peers, build relationships outside of their usual friendship group and reflect on how their choices can affect themselves and others. The ‘Career Voyager’ rotation encouraged students to reflect on their personal strengths and interests to consider future pathways that may be of interest to them.
Year 9s will begin their final Extended Learning Project (ELP) block this week (2 September). As always, classes can be based at Preston or Bundoora Campus. Classes based at Preston Campus will have a timetabled room beginning with ‘R’ or ‘K.’

On Monday 27 July, the Year 10 cohort participated in an all-day seminar with Your Choicez. The Your Choicez seminar is an important part of the development of our students at Parade College. We have hosted David Kobler, co-founder of Your Choicez and program facilitator, at Parade College over many years where he has spoken to parents and students about the issues pertinent to our young people and has supported parents in how to have these conversations with their children. Specifically, David has discussed the topics of Relationships, Safe Sexual Decision Making, Pornography, Consent + Sexual Ethics, Identity + Pressures and Love.
David recently shared some amazing feedback he received from our Year 10 students, and I share this with you now below. It is encouraging to see the positive impact programs like this are having on our young men and heart-warming to see their willingness to learn and grow, even when the topics can be difficult to discuss. We thank the parents for their support and encourage them to continue the fruitful conversations that the boys had when participating in the program.
I am a Year 10 student at Parade and I was really shocked and surprised at some of the information that was discussed. It was useful information to learn and was presented in an intriguing way... I was happy with what I had learnt and almost proud that I went to school and actually had a good day.
I was in the Year 10 seminar on the 27th of July, and it was amazingly helpful. I know it was uncomfortable at times, but it got through to me and my mates...Thank you to David for this seminar. It helped me out a lot with my understanding of these topics and it improved how I see them and how I can use these in real life situations. Thank you.
The seminar did not make me leave with fear, but a new understanding of the way things work. It opened my mind to new things I never took into consideration before.

National Week of Action Against Bullying 17 August - 21 August
With the National Week of Action Against Bullying highlighting the theme 'Small Acts, Big Impact', this is an excellent opportunity to strengthen our understanding of bullying and our collective role in creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.
Creating a safe and supportive learning environment begins with understanding what bullying is and challenging common misconceptions that can prevent effective action. Bullying is an ongoing and intentional misuse of power in relationships that causes physical, social, or psychological harm.
The three key elements of bullying are power imbalance, repetition, and intentional harm. A power imbalance may relate to social status, physical strength, age, experience, or group size. Bullying is repeated over time, or likely to be repeated, and the behaviour is deliberate and intended to cause distress, exclusion, humiliation, fear, or discomfort.
It is also important to understand what bullying is not. Bullying is not a one-off disagreement, a conflict between people of equal power, an accidental action, or harmless teasing. While these situations may still require support and intervention, they do not meet the definition of bullying unless there is a continuing pattern of harmful behaviour combined with a power imbalance.
Several myths continue to surround bullying. Bullying is not a normal part of growing up and should never be ignored. It is never the fault of the person being targeted, and its impact extends beyond the individual involved to friends, families, bystanders, and the wider community.
The effects of bullying can be significant and long-lasting. They may include anxiety, stress, reduced confidence and self-esteem, social isolation, lower engagement in learning, and ongoing mental health concerns. Online bullying can be particularly harmful because content may remain available and continue to be shared over time.
Preventing and responding to bullying is a shared responsibility. Staff can make a positive difference by recognising the signs, taking concerns seriously, responding promptly and consistently, supporting affected students, and promoting respectful relationships and inclusion.
As we recognise this important national week, let us remember that small acts of kindness, inclusion, and respect can have a big impact. Together, we can create a school community where everyone feels safe, valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.

No doubt one of the biggest highlights in our Music calendar for the year is Parade Presents. This concert allows us to showcase the entire Music department with songs our ensembles have been working hard on all year.
This year, our theme was Parade Presents: The Seasons – songs inspired seasons in the weather, seasons of our lives, or perhaps just a clever play on words, lyrics, titles and artists.
The department was thrilled to play to a full house of keen parents and our wonderful Parade community. Some highlights include our Pop Ensemble with some outstanding four-part vocal harmonies, our junior concert band with a strong showing of new Year 7 musicians, and who will forget Marcus Rao in a wig singing his heart out to Rihanna's Umbrella with a fantastic student-led band of Year 12s!
Planning is already underway for next year’s concert, and we can’t wait to share that with you all in 2027.
Just recently, the College Concert Band travelled to the Hawthorn Arts Centre to participate in the Victorian Schools Music Festival. This yearly event brings together school concert bands from across the state. This festival celebrates music from a range of different genres and styles and seeks to highlight Australian composers. Rather than being a competition, bands are given awards based on their performance against the written music. Our Parade College Concert Band, led by Mr Watson and Mr Brazil, received a Bronze Award for their division. Well done to the Concert Band!
On Friday 21 August, the Associated Catholic Colleges' Music Network hosted a concert band reading and vocal rehearsal day. Bringing together Catholic schools from across Melbourne and regional Victoria, these days give students the opportunity to further their skills with expert tutors and conductors, and to network and make new musical friends. A select group of our Concert Band students were privileged to work with the Royal Australian Air Force Band at Emmanuel College in Point Cook. Some of our vocal students also had the chance to work with local vocal educators and performers Fem Belling and Emma Duncan. A great day was had by all, and we thank Carmelo Puglisi (Director of Music - Emmanuel College) and Paul Fahey (Executive Officer - ACC) for organising this event.

This September, Manchester City Football School at Parade College is offering two exciting holiday camps to help young players have fun, develop their skills and experience the Manchester City way of playing.
Designed for students in Years 3-8, the clinics will run in the first week of the Term 3 School Holidays.
Mixed Gender: Monday 21 Sept - Thursday 24 Sept (4 days)
Girls Only: Tuesday 22 Sept - Wednesday 23 Sept (2 days)
Each day will have a different topic and focus, with age and stage-appropriate sessions delivered directly from the Manchester City Football School methodology. Players will have the opportunity to learn new skills, refine existing skills and develop their understanding of the game through engaging, challenging and enjoyable practices.
Sessions are designed to maximise ball-rolling time and touches on the ball, progressing from small-sided games into larger team games. Throughout the programme, players will be encouraged to make decisions, express themselves and develop their ability to play 'beautiful football'.
All sessions will be delivered by UEFA-qualified coaches from the UK, providing players with an authentic Manchester City Football School experience.

The Mekong Odyssey continues Parade College’s tradition of student-led international expeditions. Beginning in Luang Prabang, the team will live and work alongside a rural community, travel by slow boat along the Mekong, cross overland into Thailand and complete a multi-day trek through the Chiang Dao highlands.
Throughout the journey, students will take increasing responsibility for decisions, navigation, team finances and supporting one another through challenge. The experience is designed to build confidence, resilience and judgement while broadening students’ understanding of the world and their place within it.
At the information evening, we will talk through the itinerary, preparation, safety, cost, and application process, with plenty of time for questions.

On 4 August, Parade College participated in the Frankston Australian Clay Target Competition. The team consisted of Michael B (captain), Joshua, Rocco, Sebastian, Marcel and Michael P. I am incredibly proud of the effort the boys put in, with the team finishing in an impressive 3rd place, just four shots behind 1st. Two Parade students also placed in the top 10 out of 92 shooters, an outstanding achievement. A huge congratulations to Michael Palmieri for placing 3rd in the Junior Boys division. We wish him all the best as he advances to compete in the Victorian School Students Final in Echuca this September.
