Match Report - 13/06/2013:
- Match Report by Marcus Perilli (Yr 11)
After a solid undefeated season, the Parade boys went into a much anticipated Grand Final full of confidence against our St Bernard's College. Playing conditions were poor as the rain was quite heavy, giving everyone a very entertaining and exciting match. The St Bernard's boys went out onto the pitch showing early signs of dominance and control. This proved to be the case when they scored to make it 1-0 within the first 10 minutes. Rarely having shots at goal, the game looked to be in St Bernard's favour. A slip of concentration cost us a second goal just before half time.
After a motivational pep talk from Thomas Theodoropoulos, Marcus Perilli and Mr Houlihan, the Parade boys ran out onto the pitch with a lot more excitement and confidence. This change in attitude provided a lot more chances at goal and made us a much bigger threat compared to the struggle filled first half. This payed off when Maxwell Miskas was awarded a penalty after a reckless tackle in the box. He lined up and placed it nicely in the bottom corner. This filled the Parade boys with much needed hope and spurred them on to get another goal late in the second half. The goal was creatively chipped over the keeper by Jasdip Dosanjh. The game finished at 2-2 with a golden goal scenario in sight.
With many chances created by both sides, the goal keepers seemed to be the heroes of the day keeping out all threats. The game could not be settled on golden goal so a penalty shoot-out was brought in.
After two saves from Keeper Daniel Marinucci, Maxwell Miskas was lined up to win the game. He shot for goal but unfortunately shot at the same position as the goal keeper, but was rewarded a second chance after St Bernard's goal keeper stepped off his line. Maxwell rocketed a shot into the bottom corner leading Parade to win the Grand Final.
